Munster opt for Lansdowne venue

Munster defeated Sale at Thomond Park on Saturday

Munster's Heineken Cup quarter-final against Perpignan on 1 April will be played at Lansdowne Road (1730 GMT).

The decision to move the game away from Munster's fortress of Thomond Park was taken because the Limerick ground can accommodate only 14,000 spectators.

Lansdowne Road has a capacity of 48,000 and by switching the game to Dublin, Munster will be guaranteed 65% rather than half of the gate money.

However, Perpignan may regard Lansdowne Road as a less intimidating venue.

The Heineken Cup quarter-finals will take place on the weekend of 31 March-2 April although exact dates and times have yet to be announced by the ERC.

Munster secured a home quarter-final by beating Sale 31-9 on Saturday.
