Prop Rowntree limped off with a knee injury in the 19-27 Heineken Cup semi-final defeat by Toulouse, while flanker Moody damaged medial ligaments.

Wells said: "Graham's out for the rest of the season but is expected back in three to four weeks, so should be OK.

"Moody will be out for two to three weeks, but we'll have to wait and see."

The pair's injuries compounded a miserable day for Tigers, who saw their hopes of booking a fourth Heineken Cup final appearance dashed at the Walkers Stadium.

They paid the price for squandering two golden chances in the first half with Ollie Smith and Darren Morris spilling the ball with the line beckoning and the match finely poised.

Wells added: "We had two opportunities while they [Rowntree and Moody] were on the pitch but didn't take them.

"We should have gone in at half time two tries up, but our execution let us down on the day.

"Toulouse had only a few chances but took them. There were a fair few points which went begging and you can't do that against a class side like the one we faced."

Leicester captain Martin Johnson agreed.

"We had two great chances and didn't take them," he said.

"But Toulouse took their tries brilliantly and have such a strong backline that it was very difficult to recover, and we are left with a lot of regrets."

The result means Johnson will not bring down the curtain on his illustrious career with another Heineken Cup trophy.

"I've lost as many games as I have won. You win some and you lose some, and if we are honest with ourselves we didn't deserve to win," he said.

"But that is what is so disappointing - if they had been head and shoulders above us then fair enough, but it came down to us."

Wells also felt Jean-Baptiste Elissalde received a forward pass from Yannick Jauzion before the Frenchman's 52nd-minute try.

"To put salt on it there was that breakaway after the restart and that dubious forward pass," he said.

But Wells admitted: "Their class shone through."

Toulouse second-rower Trevor Brennan agreed that Leicester's failure to capitalise on their chances handed the game to the French.

"They had some real opportunities and if they had got them then it could have been a different match," said Brennan.

"Leicester have been there, done it and we have a lot of respect for them coming into this game.
