Tigers looking for historic win
By Graham Jenkins
BBC Sport

Geordan Murphy will face some familiar faces on Saturday
Leicester full-back Geordan Murphy will be in unfamiliar territory on Saturday - the away changing room at Lansdowne Road.

The Tigers travel to Dublin for their eagerly anticipated Heineken Cup quarter-final against Leinster hoping to make history in Europe's premier club competition.

No English club has won away from home in the last eight but Murphy remains confident, telling BBC Sport that "records are there to be broken".

The Tigers, along with fellow quarter-finalists Toulouse, are on course to become the first side to win the Heineken Cup three times, but John Wells' side are having to do it the hard way after scraping into the last eight.

Their reward for clinching the last qualification spot was a mouth-watering tie with the top seeds on their home patch in front of a capacity crowd of 48,000.

"Teams have won away at this stage before, I remember Munster doing just that, so we know it can be done," added Murphy.

This season's campaign has been heralded as a potential last hurrah for Leicester stalwarts Martin Johnson, Neil Back and coach John Wells, but Murphy insists the side needs no further inspiration than the chance to be crowned kings of Europe once again.

"Of course it would be nice for those guys if we could see them off with another win but it's not really a factor in our preparations.

"It's another week and another game and, like we always say here, we'll take it one game at a time."

Coaches, ferries, flights and hotels have been booked up and Leicester fans will take up a quarter of the stadium after selling more than 10,000 tickets.

Along with the travelling support, helping to make Murphy feel at home will of course be some familiar faces with whom he orchestrated England's downfall in the green shirt of Ireland in this year's Six Nations.

"There's been a fair bit of banter with some of the guys but it's all been good natured I assure you," he said of his Ireland team-mates.

One of those in question, centre Gordon D'Arcy, could be set to bolster the Leinster attack by returning to partner Brian O'Driscoll.

"We can't give them space," Murphy says in his assessment of the task facing his side.

Declan Kidney's side have been left to play catch-up with The Ospreys and Munster in the Celtic League but all that will be forgotten if they clinch the Heineken Cup.

Leinster

Leicester Tigers
P 6 W 4 L 2 F 196 A 118 Pts 19

But Kidney and fans alike will be hoping they don't wilt under the pressure of the big occasion as they did at the semi-final stage two years ago against Perpignan.

The Zurich Premiership leaders come into the game on the back of a surprise defeat at the hands of Leeds last weekend but still hold an enviable position as that competition enters the closing stages.

"There's no getting away from the fact that we played badly but we're determined to put it right this weekend," Murphy said of the defeat to the Tykes.

"If we had done well against Leeds everyone would have said, 'right, no worries, we're all set'. We're not panicking, we know what we have to do and how to do it."

As with every major contest this season, the prospect of the British & Irish Lions casts a shadow over proceedings, but Murphy insists a win is the main concern.

Above all it appears that along with the fans Murphy is keen to enjoy the occasion no matter what.

"It's a very special place and I'm looking forward to it. It should be a fantastic game at a fantastic ground."
