When Betsen (left) tackled Abbott the centre broke his leg |
Wasps have cited Biarritz's Serge Betsen after his tackle led to Stuart Abbott breaking his leg at the weekend. France flanker Betsen's leg caught Abbott's as the England centre jinked past him, putting Abbott out for the rest of the season.
The case will be heard by a European Rugby Cup (ERC) disciplinary committee.
If found guilty of foul play, Betsen could be handed a suspension that affects his participation in the Six Nations, which starts next month.
A statement from Wasps said they would not make any further comment on the case until the citing officer had reached his conclusion.
The incident occurred in a vital Heineken Cup pool match which Biarritz won 18-15.
The victory sent the French side through to the last eight and ended defending champions Wasps' defence of their title.
