Newcastle maintained their 100% record in their Heineken Cup pool with a hard-earned victory over Edinburgh. Australian veteran Matt Burke was man of the match with a try and five kicks, while Jamie Noon, Tom May and Michael Stephenson also scored tries.
The hosts did not have things all their way, Edinburgh captain Todd Blackadder leading by example with a score.
But three tries in six minutes all but ended the visitors' dream of advancing to the Heineken Cup last eight.
Gunners winger Chris Paterson notched the first points of the game and fly-half Brendan Laney added a scruffy drop goal, as the Falcons were made to pay for giving away a raft of penalties.

But Newcastle were shocked into action, and after a break by Mark Mayerhofler, Dave Walder dropped a goal of his own.
The match ebbed and flowed into the second half, before Newcastle went on the try-scoring rampage that sealed their victory.
Edinburgh must now win the reverse fixture at Murrayfield next Saturday to keep their European hopes alive, but Newcastle boss Rob Andrew does not plan to make that easy.
"Edinburgh's forwards were superb and maybe we took our foot off the gas but I can assure you we will not be complacent at Murrayfield," he said.
"This is the worst we have played for a couple of months and we were complacent which is disappointing.
"I told the players at half time that if they wanted to go out of Heineken Cup to go on playing the way they were."
