Bath's second-half fightback has put them in control of their Parker Pen Challenge Cup semi-final. Trailing 15-3 in the first leg, they bounced back with a penalty try and touchdowns from Olly Barkley, Wylie Human and Andy Beattie.
Montferrand's cause was hit by the 51st-minute dismissal of David Attoub.
The French side had controlled the game until that stage, tries from Gerald Merceron and Olivier Magne helping them open up a sizeable lead.
Bath coach John Connolly blasted his side's first-half display but said his side took advantage of their extra man well.
"We played poorly to start," he said. "Our execution let us down and we gave them too many opportunities, which you can't afford to do against good sides.
"I don't know if 14 points is a big enough lead. We just have to go there and be very positive.
"We can't sit on our lead in France. They are a good side with plenty of internationals," Connolly said.
