Christian Cullen could miss first three Heineken Cup games |
Former All Black star Christian Cullen could miss the start of Munster's Heineken Cup campaign. The Wellington full-back faces a second examination to assess the extent of damage done to his shoulder during the recent New Zealand NPC final defeat against Auckland.
It would be a major blow to Munster who announced Cullen's arrival in a blaze of publicity recently.
Initial prognosis is that Cullen could be sidelined for up to eight weeks, but Munster coach Alan Gaffney believes that it is not as serious as first thought.
"Christian has trained with us, but obviously avoided full physical contact,'' said Gaffney.
''It's doesn't appear to be a serious injury but we must ensure that he gets the best possible advice."
It was revealed last week that Cullen could be out for a couple of months, missing up to three Heineken Cup games as Munster begin another European journey.
"It remains to be seen how long this will take, but we are hopeful that it's not that bad," said Gaffney.
The 27-year-old Cullen was omitted from New Zealand's World Cup squad after 58 appearances in which he scored 236 Test points, including a record 46 tries.
