Froment scored twice for Castres |
Caerphilly may have lost the Parker Pen Shield final in Reading, but they gained plenty of admirers in their 40-12 defeat by French side Castres. Coach Mark Ring was more than satisfied with his sides performance.
"I couldn't ask for more from the boys. It was a very commendable performance and I'm proud of them," said the Caerphilly coach.
"It's a very proud day for the Caerphilly Rugby Club."
The Cheesemen battled throughout the final but were out classed by a strong Castres outfit.
Caerphilly did manage to score twice, opening the game with a great individual try from Roddy Boobyer.
"I thought we might sneak it at half-time. Those two balls we lost after half-time resulted in two tries and the game was suddenly dead," explained Boobyer.
"You just can't give a team like Castres any gifts. But full credit to the boys "
Caerphilly flanker Joe El-Abd was philosophical after his sides defeat.
"It's obviously very disappointing. We competed well in the first half and were unlucky to go in behind, but we just didn't perform in the second 40," said the man-of-the-match.

"It was a great game to end the season with, to finish off Caerphilly's life as we know them, but we just came up against a very good Castres side."
Castres' English prop Stephen Sparks paid a tribute to the brave Welsh side.
"They were very strong up front and had lots of aggression," said Sparks.
"They gave us a very tough test, but I think our professionalism came through in the end."
