| Friday, 14 February, 2003, 18:11 GMT Biarritz bury Cardiff ![]() Dan Baugh tries to break the Biarritz defence Heineken Cup - Pool 6 Biarritz 75-25 Cardiff Cardiff were totally overrun by a rampant Biarritz side that achieved the victory and 13 tries they needed to give them a chance of making the Heineken Cup quarter-finals. The French team secured their remarkable achievement with an 81st-minute injury-time touchdown that saw them edge out Bourgoin on points difference. But the south-west of France side must now await the result of Bristol's game against Leinster on Sunday. Cardiff were embarrassed by a side that chose not to convert their last seven tries to give themselves more time in open play.
The loss means the Welsh side have failed to win any of their six Pool Six games. The winning try was scored by French international Philippe Bernat-Salles, who turned on the style to run the length of the field for his touch down. Cardiff wing Craig Morgan had put the Blue and Blacks ahead after only two minutes as he took a rebound off a defender and ran 40 metres for Nick Robinson to convert. But Biarritz soon hit back as they drove Thomas Lievremont over for Dimitri Yachvili to convert and centre Marc Stcherbina was soon over and again Yachvili added the conversion.
Indeed Biarritz entertained the crowd with a display of first-class running rugby. Bernat-Salles ran from his own line and eight players handled before lock Olivier Roumat crossed - Cardiff had no answer to such a dominant display. Morgan was yellow-carded for preventing a try and prop Damian Minassian ran 40 metres past four tackles to score for Yachvili to place his fifth and last conversion.
At times Cardiff could only chase shadows as all to often French flair created openings for the Biarritz backs to exploit.
