Back's Leeds have lost their last two National League One games |
Leeds Carnegie's promotion hopes took another knock as they fell to a last-gasp defeat at third-placed Bedford. After losing their 100% record at Doncaster a week earlier, Leeds this time shipped two tries in the final five minutes at Goldington Road. Leeds led 18-10 at half-time with tries from Lee Blackett and Jonny Hepworth. But, after first-half tries from Ollie Dodge and Ryan Owen, Bedford crossed twice more through Billy Twelvetrees and Will Harries to snatch victory. After their narrow escape in the Cup against Birmingham & Solihull and the 27-12 Yorkshire derby defeat at Doncaster, Leeds' season is in danger of falling apart. They still lead nearest rivals Exeter, who missed the chance of a bonus point win at Nottingham on Sunday, by five points. But the Chiefs have a game in hand, which will come this Saturday when the Devon side head to Birmingham for a 'double header' against Moseley. Their EDF Energy National Trophy semi-final will also count as a league fixture for their postponed game earlier this season. A four-try win would see Exeter go level with Leeds at the top of League One and take them to Twickenham again. But, if the teams are then level at the end of the season, Leeds would go up, having won most games, as well as enjoying a better points difference.
