Bates hails Falcons improved form

Bates has led the Falcons to six successive wins

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Steve Bates insists there is room for improvement, despite Sunday's 24-16 Premiership win over Harlequins.

Tries from Tim Visser and Tom May at Kingston Park means the Falcons are ninth in the table, with a top seven finish still achievable.

Falcons have now won six consecutive games after a poor start to the season.

Bates told BBC Radio Newcastle: "I actually thought we could have made that a lot easier than we did."

"We created three or four great chances, playing some good rugby," he added.

"I said to the guys all week we've got to put on a performance for hopefully an increased number of people, and I think they've done that.

"I thought we started a bit slowly but finished very strongly - we created two or three opportunities in that first half and we didn't actually convert those into points, but we're certainly moving in the right direction."

Newcastle's next game is away at Bath on Saturday.
