Williamson pens new Falcons deal

Newcastle Falcons flanker Ed Williamson has signed a new two-year contract at Kingston Park.

The 24-year-old made his first-team debut in 2004, and has scored two tries since establishing himself with 17 first-team appearances this season.

"I've really enjoyed my rugby this season," Williamson said.

"I'm working hard to improve my game and I'm looking forward to the next two years, there is real competition for places in the back row."

The County Durham-born back row joins players such as Alex Tait, Danny Williams and Jon Golding in penning new deals with the club.

He brings a very abrasive edge to our game

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Steve Bates

The news is a bonus for director of rugby Steve Bates as he looks to build for next season.

"Ed is a tough competitor who has made great progress this season," Bates said.

"He brings a very abrasive edge to our game with his direct running around the park, and he has been a key component in what has been a much improved pack this season."
