Nottingham Rugby chairman Geoff Huckstep has said a phone call from South Africa may provide a lifeline for his cash-strapped National One outfit. Huckstep warned on Wednesday that the club could close by Christmas. But after the phone call, he said: "He claimed to be a successful businessman in South Africa running an IT firm and seemed genuine. "He is keen to meet up when he flies to England next week and we will see where it leads." Huckstep said the call should not detract from the club's other fundraising efforts. | It just shows the depth of feeling there is within the game for Nottingham Nottingham Rugby Chairman Geoff Huckstep |
The Green and Whites need to raise a minimum of 150,000 before May. Huckstep revealed the club has received a number of donations - including a 500 pledge from National League One rivals Cornish Pirates. "My phone has been red hot with people wanting to discuss how they might help us."
