Harlequins have appointed Will Skinner as club captain for next season.

The 24-year-old back-rower took on the captaincy role for a number of games last season and will now take over from Paul Volley on a permanent basis.

Skinner said: "I am really honoured. It is one of my proudest achievements and a sign of the belief that Dean Richards and the coaching staff have in me."

He will take up the position after leading the England Saxons in their upcoming tour of the USA and Canada.

Will is an intelligent, passionate and talented player

Dean Richards
Skinner, who joined Quins from Leicester Tigers in 2006, is likely to be the youngest captain in the Guinness Premiership next season.

He is relishing the challenge and added: "Quins is such a special and close knit-club, with players who play for each other.

"There is so much potential in such a young squad, along with a huge amount of ambition, and I am looking forward to next season."

Dean Richards, Quins' director of rugby, is confident Skinner will be a success in the role.

Richards said: "Will is an intelligent, passionate and talented player.

"He is a captain who leads by example and is hugely respected by all players and staff.

"He has already proven himself as a player and captain, both at club and international level, and I look forward to him leading the team next season."
