PRO40 Division One, Hove Sussex 166-5 (36.5 overs) beat Middlesex 165 all out (39.1 overs) by five wickets
Murray Goodwin's unbeaten 54 saw Sussex go joint top of the NatWest Pro40 Division One as they condemned Middlesex to relegation. Middlesex were bowled out for just 165, thanks to James Kirtley's 3-25 with only Ed Joyce (64) and Shaun Udal (45) offering any resistance. Sussex eased to their target in 36.5 overs, recording a five-wicket victory. They now faces Nottinghamshire in their final match at Trent Bridge on Sunday, with the winners securing the title. Had it not of been for Joyce and Udal, Sussex's victory would have been far more comprehensive. Joyce led a mini-fight back firing four fours and a six from 95 deliveries before succumbing to Kirtley. He shared a seventh-wicket stand of 78 in 15 overs with skipper Udal, who also fell to Kirtley. Sussex got off to a poor start with Michael Yardy, Luke Wright and skipper Chris Adams all falling quickly as the hosts stumbled to 35-3. But Matt Prior (38) and Goodwin steadied the ship, with Goodwin hitting four boundaries and reaching his half-century off 70 balls. Goodwin shared an unbroken sixth-wicket stand off 55 with Carl Hopkinson (22 not out) as Sussex eased to victory.
