The fly-half went into the match tied with former Wales international Neil Jenkins on 1090 points.

Wilkinson, 28, went past that mark with a penalty in the 26th minute and ended the match on 1099 points, despite England going down 15-9 to Scotland.

He has scored 1032 points for England and 67 for the British and Irish Lions.

The Newcastle Falcons star made his England debut in 1998 and kicked the winning drop goal in World Cup final in 2003.

But he was in no mood to celebrate making history after a game in which he was substituted on 69 minutes.

"I don't think it counts for much," said Wilkinson. "It's not what you are in the game for.

"It's been a tough day for the guys. Scotland play those conditions very well. They have great defence and attack the ball well.

"We've seen it before and you feel a bit helpless out there sometimes.

"We gave away too many penalties. Scotland had a good grip on us today."
