White promises more England pain
Jake White
White says South Africa will improve before the World Cup
South Africa coach Jake White has warned England his side will perform "much better" in the second Test in Pretoria on Saturday.

England were on the receiving end of a record 58-10 defeat to the Springboks in Bloemfontein last weekend.

"If we get better possession and field position, I think we could see a big improvement," said White.

"If we are able to go exploit their errors again there's no reason why we can't go up another level."

South Africa have made three changes, with CJ van der Linde and Gurthro Steenkamp replacing BJ Botha and Deon Carstens in the front row and Akona Ndungane coming in for Ashwin Willemse on the wing.

Wynand Olivier and Danie Rossouw have both recovered from colds and will start.

They know they meet England in the World Cup, I don't have to over-emphasise the importance of this match

Rossouw retains his place at number eight despite Pierre Spies impressing off the bench in Saturday's 58-10 win in Bloemfontein.

White also brushed aside suggestions that his side's win was a flattering one against weakened opponents.

More than 30 England players were unavailable for the tour because of club commitments and injuries.

"They are right, and we did capitalise from their mistakes, but I think that just shows the benefit of the Super 14," said White.

"It's the type of tournament were you are forced to exploit poor kicks and turnover ball because defences are so well-organised.

"So our ability to do that was simply a spin-off of what the players have been forced to do at their franchises.

White added that his team was maturing and would get better with every game before the World Cup.

"For us it's not about the quality of the opposition we play against, it's about cementing combinations that we know are going to be key for us going forward and I think we're getting there," he said.

"Schalk Burger and Juan Smith were excellent last Saturday and this week Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha become the most capped lock pairing in Springbok history.

"This team is really maturing now, they've been together for a while and some have been successful in Super 14.

"I think they'll appreciate that every Test match this year is important to build momentum going forward into the World Cup.

"We've got an opportunity now to keep the same core group together, and they know they meet England in the World Cup pool game.

"The reality is quite clear, I don't have to over-emphasise the importance of this match."
