Springboks coach Jake White talks to his players |
South Africa coach Jake White has told his team not to get carried away with their record 58-10 win over a below-par England on Saturday. An already under-strength England squad was further weakened by a virus and White said he expected a tougher challenge in the second Test.
"If they hadn't lost Andy Farrell and Peter Richards before the game, they'd have been a different team," he said.
"I'm sure they'll bounce back. I wouldn't read too much into it."
White says his side will play better in the second Test at Loftus Versfeld, but said the win over England would boost their confidence.
He did not expect to make many changes to the side but has dropped Fourie du Preez, lock Johan Ackermann, flank Wikus van Heerden and wing Odwa Ndungane from the squad.
"We showed in batches how we can play, and when we played badly, it was more of a case of running away from each other, so keeping a team together can obviously improve that," he said.
"It is great to get a result like this over a nation like England since we will be playing them at the World Cup.
"There was a lot of expectation on us to perform, especially since England had suffered all those setbacks because of the stomach virus."
