Bristol get promotion green light
Bristol's Memorial Ground
The Shoguns' Memorial Ground passed an inspection
Bristol Shoguns have been officially promoted to the Zurich Premiership.

Their chief executive, John Portch, was advised of the decision by English Rugby on Friday.

The Memorial Stadium - which the Shoguns share with Bristol Rovers - was inspected last weekend to ensure its suitability to host top-flight rugby.

The Shoguns plan to play their home matches on Sundays, and if their fixtures ever clash with Rovers, they can switch to the Ashton Gate stadium.

Howard Thomas, chief executive of Premier Rugby, said: "On behalf of Premier Rugby, I congratulate Bristol on their promotion.

"The club was previously an important member of the Premiership and we welcome them back."
