Harlequins fly-half Andrew Mehrtens believes his team face a gruelling campaign in National League One. Quins started the season with an error-strewn 35-9 win at Pertemps Bees on Saturday, their first game outside the top division.
The visitors managed to score five tries but Mehrtens insists his side will not have it all their own way.
"Everyone talks about National One being of a much lower standard but I don't think it is," he said.
"There's probably a big gap between the top Premiership teams and in the second division, but otherwise there isn't much difference.
"We will be playing teams who want to knock us off every week. Adrenaline can do amazing things to people.
"We have to make sure our passion and intensity is up to and beyond our opponents."
Quins rugby director Dean Richards said the performance, which saw moves break down because of poor passing and communication, was down to first-day jitters.
