Former All Blacks fly-half Andrew Mehrtens marked his Harlequins debut with a try but could not prevent them losing to London Irish. The 32-year-old, who won 72 caps for New Zealand, came on for the last hour of a pre-season friendly at the Stoop.
His introduction saw Quins score two tries, Mehrtens grabbing the second when he gathered a chip ahead.
But London Irish hit back to win 28-14, flankers Kieron Dawson and Declan Danaher among their try scorers.
Quins have further friendlies against Bristol and Saracens before they open their National League One campaign against Pertemps Bees on 3 September.
