Wasps have held talks with Dawson |
London Wasps say they are hoping to sign England scrum-half Matt Dawson from Northampton "within a few days". "We are hoping he will put pen to paper next week but nothing has been finalised," said Wasps' Nolan Miller.
The English champions are looking for an experienced scrum-half as Rob Howley will have an operation in the summer and will be out until October.
Dawson has spent all 13 years of his domestic career with the Saints but now lives in London with his girlfriend.
Coach Warren Gatland confirmed after Wasps's crushing 57-20 victory over Northampton that a deal could be imminent.
"We knew a few months ago that Matt was available, but we only had contact with him last Wednesday," Gatland added.
"If we do sign him next week, then he will be a fantastic addition to our squad."
