Sale went four points clear at the top of the Zurich Premiership after running riot against Worcester, scoring eight tries against the promoted Warriors.

Back rower Chris Jones grabbed a hat-trick for the hosts while fly-half Charlie Hodgson was in great form.

The England man slotted eight kicks and showed great vision to help the Sharks leave the visitors floundering.

Worcester managed to avoid a whitewash but only just, with their points coming from a James Brown penalty.

Sale coach Philippe Saint-Andre was pleased with his side's clinical performance.

"One of our targets today was not to concede a try and we did not concede a try so I'm very happy," he said.

"We respected Worcester a lot and that is one of the reasons we won. We were scared of Worcester.

"We got to use the whole squad of 22 players which is very positive. Our only worries are the injuries to Mark Cueto and Steve Hanley."

Jones started the rout when he crashed over from close range and Mark Cueto soon crossed wide out, with Hodgson converting both scores to give sale a 14-0 lead.

From the kick-off after Cueto's try Worcester were awarded a penalty, which Brown duly kicked, but that was it for the visitors.

Just after the half-hour mark Jones grabbed his second score and Magnus Lund collected Sale's fourth try four minutes later.

They got a lot right and we didn't get very much right and the result of that is a drubbing
Worcester coach John Brain

Hodgson converted both but he finally missed after scrum-half Bryan Redpath was driven over 10 minutes into the second half.

Jason Robinson then scored a trademark try, beating two men on a dazzling 40-metre run to the line.

Hodgson added the extras and he was on target twice more after Stuart Turner and Jones rounded off the scoring spree for the impressive Sharks.

Worcester coach John Brain said the result showed the gulf between the two sides.

"Sale are a very good team," he said. "They got a lot right and we didn't get very much right and the result of that is a drubbing.

"They are without any question the best team we have played this season. They have pace and power throughout the team."

But Brain said he would take time in reflecting on the loss.

"The players know that in terms of the way they executed things they let themselves down.

"We'll look at the video very carefully and see if we have the resources to improve our team.

"We will be looking at the performance of one or two players in the A-team on Monday night pretty closely. They'll be no knee-jerk reaction."
