A brace of tries from wing Mark Cueto handed Sale their third consecutive win of the season on Friday. Having already defeated Heineken Cup winners Wasps and Leicester, Sale continued their good form to claim top spot in the Premiership table.
Cueto crossed twice in the first-half and Charlie Hodgson added 15 points with the boot.
Saracens hit back through four Nicky Little penalties and a Mark Bartholomeusz drop goal.
Sale coach Phillipe Saint-Andre criticised his side, despite the win.
"It was not a pretty game," he said. "We played well in the first 10 minutes and scored two very good tries but after that we didn't get much ball.
"When we finally did get the ball we dropped it.
"We were all disappointed with the performance and the players know that we played badly. But at the end of the day we still managed to win."
Saracens coach Rod Kafer admitted his side were guilty of not taking their chances.
"We didn't really deserve to win," he said. "Had we won we would not have been worthy winners.
"When you play away from home you stick to a plan and for most of the game, but fundamental errors, particularly our handling, let us down.
"You can't afford to waste opportunities just through a lack of concentration."
