| Monday, 20 May, 2002, 22:07 GMT 23:07 UK Wasps close to Wycombe switch Adams Park could be Wasps' new home Wasps look set to be given the go-ahead to play at Wycombe Wanderers' Adams Park ground next season by the local council. The ground-share proposal was given qualified support by Wycombe District Council on Monday after a presentation from Wasps new chief executive Alistair McLean.
The council has added the proviso that a 'green transport plan' to reduce the number of cars attending matches must be agreed. Wasps will provide transport from London for fans wishing to follow the club to their new home. Speaking before the hearing, McLean said: "We are very excited about Wycombe. We see Wycombe as being the perfect marriage for us. "Buckinghamshire is the very heart of our academy. "A huge chunk of the players from our under-21 and under-19 teams come from here and it is a strong rugby area. "Wycombe has always been our preferred destination." Wasps decided to leave Loftus Road for two years because of Fulham's ground-share deal with QPR. The decision will ease pressure on the Rugby Football Union, who recently denied Rotherham promotion to the top flight because of their own ground problems. | See also: 10 May 02 | English 07 May 02 | English 28 Mar 02 | Wycombe Wanderers 04 Feb 02 | English 15 Jan 02 | English Top English stories now: Links to more English stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
