Around 200 Stoke fans witnessed their side's victory at Twickenham |
Stoke RUFC defeated Aylesford 16-10 in their first ever appearance at Twickenham to win the Intermediate Cup. The Kent side led 5-3 at half time but a penalty from Steve Talbot and a try from Simon Price put Stoke ahead. Wayne Dicken then broke away to score the decisive try and seal victory for the Midlands Two West (North) side. The win gave the city of Stoke-on-Trent something to celebrate on Saturday, following Stoke City's 1-0 defeat by Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Chairman Jeremy Edwards asked for the final to be re-scheduled to an earlier time slot, as it clashed with the kick-off time at Wembley. His attempts were unsuccessful, although around 200 Stoke supporters were inside the ground to see their team lift the trophy.
