Grant Pointer scored the Pirates' second try nine minutes from time |
Cornish Pirates picked up a bonus point victory in their Championship play-off opener against Doncaster. Pirates led 16-3 at half-time after three penalties, from Rob Cook (2) and Grant Pointer, were followed by flanker Phil Burgess's 11th try of the season. Doncaster clawed back to within three points, but tries from Pointer, Cook and Wes Davies secured victory. Two more late tries from the Knights proved little consolation as they let slip a chance of a losing bonus point. The Pirates have now won all three of this season's clashes with Doncaster. The Cornishmen face their next Pool B clash at Bedford on Sunday (20 March, 1305 GMT).
