Oxford Harlequins captain Simon Chadbone says Bournemouth are the standard by which they must judge themselves when they play on Saturday.
Quins have lost 10 games this season to sit ninth in the National Three South West, whereas Bournemouth are second having lost twice this term.
"You must pit yourselves against the top sides, they're the benchmark to set ourselves," Chadbone told BBC Oxford.
"It'll give us a boost to beat them and shows how we should play every week."
The tight-head prop added: "If we can stop a big side like Bournemouth then we can take that forward and push on and try and get more results under our belt.
"It will be quite a tough fixture because they are going great guns in the league at the moment.
"But they do play an expansive game which is similar to ours and they've got a decent pitch where you can play that sort of game so it should be a good match."
With just eight games left to play for and the Quins stuck in mid-table, Chadbone admits his side have underachieved this season.
"Hopefully we can build on this year because we are under achieving this season, we have given results away this season and should have capitalized on games," said the 32-year-old.
"But I know where I feel we should be and know we have ability but its just putting that into action."
