Oxford Harlequins aim to build on Newton Abbot victory
Oxford Harlequins captain Simon Chadbone wants his side to use the win over Newton Abbot on Saturday as a stepping stone to climb the league.
Tries from Martin Knutt and Hugh Jones helped Quins beat Abbot 17-3 but they are still just ninth in the National League Three South West table.
"This league is tight so we can use this as a stepping stone to push on," Chadbone told BBC radio Oxford,
"We can run teams off the park on our day, so we must build on this result."
The victory enabled the Quins to close the gap on eight-place All Whites to just one point, but the failure to score four tries and gain a bonus point meant the Oxfordshire side missed the chance to leapfrog Abbot in the table.
However Chadbone insists his team will not rue the missed opportunity.
"We are still one point behind them, and on another day we could have scored a couple more tries, but it was a result we needed to get and it wasn't easy," he said.
"We ground out a win and our defence at times were phenomenal and our work rate was tremendous. Hopefully we can push on from here and get a few more wins."
Quins face a double-header this weekend when they play Barnstable at home in the league on Saturday and Whitney in the first round of the County Cup on Sunday.
"It will be tough on our team," Chadbone acknowledged. "Our squad system will have to come into play and some of the younger players will have to step off the mark as well."
