Malton & Norton boss Chris Creber targets promotion

Rugby ball and posts

Malton & Norton player-coach Chris Creber says his side have a long way to go if they want to win promotion from the Yorkshire League Division One.

The club are unbeaten in 14 league games but Creber told BBC Radio York he is aware their form could easily dip.

"We're very realistic about it. It's a fantastic run but it's the end of the season where we'll be judged," he said.

"The league is such that if we lose two games and Sheffield win two we cannot even be top of the table."

Creber added: "There's been at least three games this year where I think if the game had gone for another five minutes we could quite possibly have been on the losing end.

We certainly know we're not unbeatable by any means

"Then there's been other games where we've won it well in the end but there were crucial stages in the game where we could possibly have lost it.

"So we're keeping our feet on the ground. It's great to have had the run but we certainly know we're not unbeatable by any means and if we don't turn up and do our best, there's any team, even the bottom team in Yorkshire One that can beat the top team.

"Our aim is to be the best we can be and try and play our best every weekend. We're confident if we do that that we have the ability to beat anyone else. But we're fully aware that if we don't do that, we can come off second best.

"As funny as it sounds we started to put together a good run when we stopped worrying about winning.

"All we concentrate on now and on each weekend is trying to perform as good as we can. Hopefully that is good enough to win."
