Plymouth Albion chairman of rugby Graham Dawe has insisted his side can make the Championship promotion play-offs this season.

Albion are currently one place and four points behind the play-off places with just seven games remaining.

Dawe told BBC Devon: "We know it's going to be hard, but we're living the dream of getting in the top eight.

"The top eight puts you in the melting pot for the Premiership and gives the players something to aim at."

Albion have only won four of their 15 matches this season, with two of those victories coming against bottom side Birmingham & Solihull

On Boxing Day, Plymouth entertain local rivals Cornish Pirates at Brickfields, a fixture they have come out on top in since 2005, when the Pirates edged a narrow 26-23 victory.

Dawe said: "History doesn't guarantee anything in life and we certainly don't look back on things like that record.

"It's just a coincidence really that the Plymouth players and teams at that time have played very well against the Pirates.

"If we lose the game then it will be the worst fixture in the world at Christmas but unfortunately in a local derby somebody's going to lose probably and it's going to be hard to take."
