Tony Buckley and Peter Stringer tackle Julio Farias Cabello
Ireland coach Declan Kidney was content after his team ended their autumn series with a 29-9 win over Argentina at the Aviva Stadium. "I'm delighted with the win. It's a good way to end the November series and puts us in good stead for the Six Nations," said the Ireland coach. "We were good and positive in the first half and when we had the ball, we played well. "We made a few turnovers in the second half which made it easier for them." Kidney added:"Argentina got hold of the ball in the second half and they did hang on to it. That's something we'll have to look at. "There are loads of areas we'll have to look at (after the November games). "It was the first 10 minutes of the second half against New Zealand last week that caught us. "Teams can maybe get in a sense of not coming out for the second half so we have to look at that. | 606: DEBATE |
"We're far from the finished product." Man of the match Jamie Heaslip felt that the Irish pack had crucially matched the Argentines' aggression. "We had to front up and we did - especially around the rucks and mauls. "We did a good job and got the win which was very important. "We had two losses out of three coming into this. It was the last game before the Six Nations so we wanted to leave with a good taste in our mouths. | Our scrum was going forward and Ireland's went backwards but the referee says it had been turned around and gave them possession Argentina captain Felipe Contepomi |
"As a whole we played well. Argentina did well to close down our space but our game plan was adapted for that." Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll failed to finish the match after taking a blow to the jaw but the full extent of his injury was unclear. Argentina captain Felipe Contepomi felt his side suffered from referee Mark Lawrence's officiating at the scrum. The Pumas sent Ireland into retreat at a series of early five-metre set-pieces, yet Lawrence eventually gave the home side the put in. "We didn't score in the moments we had too. There were crucial moments that would have led us to victory but we didn't score," said Contepomi. "It was lost there. There was a different interpretation at the scrum. "Our scrum was going forward and Ireland's went backwards but the referee says it had been turned around and gave them possession."
