Bristol head coach Paul Hull rues loss of composure

Hull's Bristol lost the Championship play-off final to Exeter in May

Bristol head coach Paul Hull says individual errors and a loss of concentration were to blame for their 29-27 away defeat to Esher on Saturday.

This latest loss follows the reverse to Rotherham 26-24 at the Memorial Stadium on the opening day of the season.

"We just took our eye off the ball especially in attack and were a little bit loose," Hull told BBC Bristol.

"Esher then took advantage of that loose ball and that gave them possession and our composure went."

It was the second successive game that Bristol had taken a lead only to lose the match by two points.

Against Rotherham they were 10-0 up after just ten minutes and on Saturday held a 17-3 advantage in the first half before Esher fought back.

Hull continued: "The first 20 minutes or so was some outstanding rugby - really direct and positive.

"But as I said to the players at the end the game is played over 80 minutes and if a little mistake happens don't compound it with another mistake.

"But that's what we did - our heads went down and their tails went up so it was a real momentum swing.

"You hate losing one game never mind two but this is sport. But don't forget this is a new coaching set-up, a new captain and a new young team.

"We're still finding our feet and the games have been close which, if you were a neutral, you would have thought we would have won."
