Stuart-Smith joined Esher from Exeter Chiefs in the summer |
Esher scrum half Clive Stuart-Smith says winning their first Championship game has given the club a major boost. Esher began their campaign with a 29-15 win away to Moseley on Saturday. The 27-year-old told BBC Surrey: "It's huge. If you set off with a loss it puts you on the back foot straight away and puts you under pressure. "We want to build momentum. We're not resting on our laurels. We know we have to go out every week and perform if we want to pick up a result." He added: "We knew how tough Moseley away is. "We're over the moon we won on the road in the first game of the season." Stuart-Smith thinks the Esher squad must be fully mentally prepared for their match at home to Bristol on Saturday. "Just the name Bristol itself has a lot of rugby tradition behind it," he said. "They're going to be very, very strong. It is a home game but that counts for very little if we don't get our performance right."
