England Women brushed aside Kazakhstan to record an empathic 82-0 win in their second game at the Rugby World Cup. After beating Ireland 27-0 in their opening match, England again showed their quality as they drove through Kazakhstan's defence almost at will. Fiona Pocock and Charlotte Barras scored hat-tricks as England's backs found plenty of space. Earlier in England's group Ireland came from behind and beat United States Women 22-12. England will go into their final Pool B game against the US with a maximum 10 points. Following their victory over Ireland on Friday, England made 12 changes to their starting line-up but soon managed to find the cohesion to overcome the visitors. | 606: DEBATE |
The game was taken away from Kazakhstan in the opening 10 minutes as Pocock and Barras both touched down with captain Katy McLean converting. Barras added another try before Sarah Beale burst down the line to add a fourth, replacement Katherine Merchant added a fifth and Rachael Burford pounced on a kick through to complete the first-half scoring. Fly-half McLean recorded six conversions from six attempts to put England well clear at 42-0 up at half-time. And although the Asian champions never stopped pushing to put points on the board, England were again able to add to their tally in the second half. La Toya Mason went over untouched, while Pocock finished off a break by Amy Turner and then completed her hat-trick as she burst through midfield before rounding her opposite number on her way to the line. Roz Crowley battled her way through as the points kept coming before Amber Penrith showed great pace to touch down and Barras rounded things off as she drove through and outpaced the Kazakhstan forwards to go over in the right corner.
