Zandile Nojoko's try put South Africa out of Wales' reach |
Wales Women's hopes of reaching the semi-final were all-but ended after being beaten by South Africa in Pool A. Non Evans sparked a late rally with a penalty followed by a conversion for Elen Evans' try, but the damage was already done. South Africa struck twice in the first half, Namhla Siyolo running through on the half-hour with Charmaine Kayser adding the second try 10 minutes later. Zandile Nojoko made it 15-0 after the break, leaving Wales too much to do. It leaves Wales bottom of Pool A with one game to go against New Zealand on Saturday. The holders crushed Australia 32-5 in Tuesday's other game in Pool A, leaving them almost certain to advance as group winners.
