Jenny Davies packs down against Australia
Davies will miss the games against South Africa and New Zealand

Wales Women will be without experienced prop Jenny Davies for Tuesday's Rugby World Cup clash against South Africa after being banned for three games.

Davies, 28, was cited and found guilty of stamping in Wales' opening 26-12 loss to Australia on Friday.

Her absence gives Caryl Thomas the chance to start against South Africa at Surry Sports Park amid four changes.

Caryl James and Ceri Redman come into the backs while hooker Lowri Harries joins Thomas comes in the front row.

Builth Wells-born Davies, capped 44 times, will also miss Wales' final Pool A clash, against New Zealand, on Saturday and the first play-off round that follows.

A statement on the Welsh Rugby Union website read: "Judicial officer Jeremy Summers (England) regarded it as a mid-range offence and because of mitigating factors suspended the player for three matches."

Harries takes over from Rhian Bowden while wing James and centre Redman replace Elen Evans and Clare Flowers respectively.

James said: "There is such strong competition for the wing berths in this squad," she said.

I can't see any reason why we can't get our campaign back on track with a victory against South Africa

Ceri Redman

"I was really disappointed to miss out on the first game against Australia, but am really excited about getting my chance against South Africa.

"With the changes we've made to the backline, hopefully we can take the game to South Africa and get plenty of ball out in the backs as we like running with the ball."

Redman said: "We've put the opening defeat to Australia firmly behind us now. We are only looking forward.

"The final score-line didn't really do us justice. We were in that game for long periods, but unfortunately a couple of basic mistakes cost us dearly.

"We've got a game plan for the South African game and we have to stick to it.

"I can't see any reason why we can't get our campaign back on track with a victory against South Africa."
