Worcester fans' favourite Delport was tipped for a return to Sixways |
National One side Stourbridge have signed former South Africa international Thinus Delport as their new player-coach. The 35-year-old full-back, who also plays on the wing, played 18 times for the Springboks between 2000 and 2003. Delport also made more than 200 Premiership appearances while at Gloucester and Worcester Warriors. He moves to Stourton Park on a one-year contract where he will work with new Stourbridge head coach Tony Windo. The former Worcester favourite had been considering a move back to Sixways after two years in Japan with Kobe Steelers but was persuaded to switch to Stourbridge by former Warriors team-mate Windo. "I enjoyed my time in Japan - it was a great life experience - but was looking to continue playing in this country and Reg [Windo] mentioned there was an opportunity at Stourbridge," he said. "Whenever anyone mentioned Stourbridge in the past, they always spoke highly about the club and the people." Club chairman Dick Jeavons-Fellows added: "It has always been our aim to be a springboard for professional sport in the area. "We are all looking forward to seeing Thinus line up for Stourbridge this season and he is sure to bring something a little special to the side."
