Bristol sign up Kiwi back Giddens

Bristol have signed New Zealand utility back Sam Giddens on a six-month contract from Hawke's Bay.

The 25-year-old can play in the centre, at fly-half or at full-back.

"With the long-term injury to Ed Barnes we felt it necessary to bring in similar type of player who can cover a few positions," said coach Paul Hull.

"We've studied Sam closely and were impressed. I'm confident he'll fit in with the style of rugby we like to play and our vision going forward."

Giddens has played an integral role in helping Hawke's Bay reach the semi-final of the Air New Zealand Cup in successive seasons.

Hull added: "The team have gelled really well and there is a great atmosphere around the club. I know everyone involved will make Sam and his family feel welcome."
