Bristol 46-28 Coventry

Tom Arscott
Arscott scored his first-ever hat-trick as Bristol ran in eight tries

A first half hat-trick of tries from winger Tom Arscott helped Bristol to a bonus-point victory against Coventry at the Memorial Ground on Friday night.

Arscott opened the scoring for Bristol after five minutes and the home side touched down a further four times to take a 27-13 half-time lead.

Second-half tries came from Jack Adams, Luke Eves and James Phillips.

"It's a massive step forward and hopefully the start of things to come," coach Paul Hull told BBC Radio Bristol.

Bristol got their try-scoring bonus point after just 31 minutes through wingers Tom Arscott (3) and Dan Norton.

Coventry responded with an individual try from fly-half Joe Carlisle before Bristol captain and scrum-half Jason Spice touched down on the stroke of half-time.

The second-half saw Coventry score their second try through prop Jo Marrigan before Bristol hit back with three of their own.

The away side scored their third and final try as hooker Scott Roberts went over in the final passage of play.

Despite a much-improved performance Hull only gave his side a score of six out of 10 for the match.

"I'm a little bit disappointed with the second half. We conceded that try right at the end and two tries either side of the interval. We just need to eradicate that.

"We had a lot more emphasis on attack and we've got some things to work on but we're happy with that."

Bristol remain in third place in the Championship, level on points with Nottingham who lost away to Plymouth at the weekend.
