Crewe wrap up Phillips loan deal

Steve Phillips
Phillips won promotion from League Two with Bristol Rovers in 2007

Crewe Alexandra have completed the signing of Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Steve Phillips on loan until January.

The 31-year-old's loan spell at Shrewsbury Town expired after the 1-1 draw against Notts County on Saturday.

Crewe assistant manager Steve Davis told BBC Radio Stoke: "He'll give us that bit of confidence that we need."

David Button, Adam Legzdins, Steve Collis and Adam Bogdan have all appeared in goal for the Alex in their first campaign back in League Two.

Crewe had failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their previous 11 matches before the 4-0 win at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Phillips, 31, is one of the few players to have played for both Bristol clubs, having started his career with City and moved to the Memorial Stadium in 2006.

He has made over 400 league appearances and helped Rovers win promotion to League One via the play-offs in May 2007.
