Cambridge flanker Tom Powell hopes he can be playing within six weeks after undergoing surgery on his knee.
The 24-year-old damaged his ligaments and bone in his left leg during September's win at Stourbridge and is now working on regaining his fitness.
Powell told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "The surgeon is really happy with how it went.
"Now I just get back onto the rehab table with the physio, get running soon and get back as quickly as I can."
With the driving maul making a return as a tactic in National League One the physicality of the game has increased.
Powell thinks it could have contributed to Cambridge's high volume of injured forwards.
"The driving maul can't be accountable for all our injuries," he said. "But it certainly is a lot more physical."
"I think you go through patches of luck with injuries, it just seems all of ours have come at once."
Cambridge travel to Otley on Saturday for a fixture which triggered a 13-match winning streak last season.
Cambridge were 34-6 winners on that occasion and Powell believes they could do the same again.
"If we go there and match that performance this week I'm sure we'll get the same result.
"If we play to our pattern and play to our game plan, like we've been trying to do recently, I'm sure things will click and we'll start to move forwards."
