Leading league try scorer Joe Maddock is one of five players shortlisted |
Five players from the top four teams in the Guinness Premiership are set to vie for the Player of the Year crown. The shortlist follows the conclusion of the league stage of the Premiership and includes its leading try scorer Joe Maddock of Bath. Tom Croft of table-toppers Leicester Tigers and Chris Robshaw of second placed Harlequins are also nominated. Joining them are London Irish full-back Delon Armitage and centre Seilala Mapusua of Samoa. Maddock's nomination follows his most fruitful season for Bath and his 11 tries have proved key to their second successive semi-final placing. Croft makes the shortlist on the back of his domestic and European performances, while Robshaw has not missed a game all season for the Quins. | 606: DEBATE |
Armitage has become an England regular on the back of his displays for London Irish this season and his team-mate Mapusua has missed only two games for the Exiles and scored five tries. The winner of the award will be announced on Tuesday, 5 May at the Hilton Park Lane hotel in London.
