The Armitages featured in England's Six Nations win over Italy in February

London Irish brothers Delon and Steffon Armitage are among the nominees for this year's Professional Rugby Players' Association awards.

Full-back Delon, a notable omission from the Lions squad, is nominated for the player's player of the year award.

Club-mate Seilala Mapusua, Sale's Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Newcastle's Tom May and Northampton's Ben Foden are the other nominees.

Steffon will contest the young player of the year award.

The winners of the awards will be announced on 13 May.

The flanker will be up against utility back Foden, the Harlequins duo of Danny Care and Jordan Turner-Hall, and Leicester flanker Tom Croft, another surprising omission from head coach Ian McGeechan's Lions squad.

"It's a tremendous honour to be nominated by my peers for this award, and for Steffon and I both to be nominated is a fabulous surprise and a proud moment for our family," said Delon, who played in all five of England's Six Nations matches this year.

"This has been a remarkable season for me, which will hopefully continue beyond this weekend, and to be nominated alongside the outstanding names on this list is a privilege I am both proud and humble to receive."

Brother Steffon, who made his international debut against Italy in February, said: "This season has been better than I dared to dream, and to be recognised by our fellow players for these awards is a huge honour."

London Irish are currently fourth in the Premiership and need a win in their final match away to Worcester to make sure of a place in the top-four play-offs.
