Mike Shelley has warned Leeds Carnegie not to take any backward steps in the National Trophy Final against Moseley on Saturday (kick-off 1200 BST).
The former prop lifted the Powergen Cup the last time Leeds were at Twickenham back in 2005 when they beat Bath 20-13.
He told BBC Radio Leeds: "You have to give everything from the off. Fly into people, get physical superiority, then start playing rugby and you'll win.
"It's a one off game and all that matters is picking up the silverware."
Shelley, who now lives in Canada, joined Leeds in 1996 and spent 10 years at Headingley, making 244 appearances.
The former England A international captained Leeds to their first ever promotion to the Premiership and also lifted the Powergen Cup at Twickenham in the absence of then skipper Iain Balshaw, who had been injured in the final.
"It was a very special day, especially as I had never played at Twickenham before," Shelley continued.
"It was an amazing day and I have some fantastic memories of the game and also the way the whole city of Leeds got behind us.
"I lifted the trophy by default with Iain going off and Stuart Hooper took over as captain on the field, but I think I was pushed forward to pick up the trophy because I had been skipper for a number of years before that.
"Being a Leeds boy it was an amazing chance to lift the Powergen Cup for your home city.
"Every other final at Twickenham that day had Yorkshire teams in and they all won, and that meant that apart from about 5,000 from Bath, the 70,000 crowd were all supporting us.
BBC Radio Leeds has exclusive full match commentary of the Final on 774 AM, DAB & online at bbc.co.uk/leeds. All the build-up live from Twickenham begins at 1100 BST on Saturday.
