Liskeard-Looe have made it through to the final of the Junior Vase |
A Liskeard-Looe under-15s player has been suspended for posting offensive comments on a social networking site. The player was suspended on Friday, just days after the club was fined for printing racist and offensive jokes in their match-day programme. The Rugby Football Union is aware of the Bebo page but have decided not to take any further action over this latest controversy. The page contained Nazi swastikas next to a poem called 'English and Proud'. Solicitor Andrew Deacon, who is acting on behalf of Liskeard-Looe said: "A thorough investigation will take place. In the meantime, the player concerned has been temporarily suspended until the facts are known. | The person concerned put the offensive material on his own, private site and it has nothing to do with the rugby club Club solicitor Andrew Deacon |
"A full public statement will be made when the investigation is complete." Mr Deacon added: "Liskeard-Looe Rugby Club does not condone racism, homophobia or sexist behaviour. "The person concerned put the offensive material on his own, private site and it has nothing to do with the rugby club. "It's about time people should be congratulating us on reaching a Twickenham final and not trying to ruin the image of an amateur club, which has no political stance or issues." The RFU forced the club to make a public apology and pay a fine of £2,500 after their hearing in Bristol last week for offensive material which was printed in the programme for the match against Lowestoft & Yarmouth in the Junior Vase semi-final. The RFU decided not to take action after the material was withdrawn from Bebo with immediate effect.
