Redruth launch fundraising scheme

Redruth RFC

Redruth Rugby Club have launched a scheme to try and get fans to contribute towards the travel costs of the National Two club.

The club claim they travel about 8,000 miles a season in the league, at a cost of 20,000 or 2.50 per mile.

Fans are being asked to buy "Red Miles" with people who buy them going into a draw for free membership next season.

"Times are tough, the credit crunch is hitting us all," club secretary Roger Watson told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"In many of our budget areas we're well ahead, but we're finding that our sponsorship income is slow to come in.

"We're looking at a little bit of a gap so we thought we'd look for an area where our members and supporters could help us," he added.

Last week Redruth's director of rugby Dave Penberthy told BBC Radio Cornwall that the club were considering asking their supporters for help during the tough economic times.
