Exeter Chiefs have released Australian centre Wade Kelly from his contract at Sandy Park. The 28-year-old has left for Sardinia to play for Italian side Alghero after failing to get back in the team following a shoulder injury. Kelly joined the Chiefs in 2006 after two years at Cornish Pirates and three years at Orrell. Kelly has made just one substitute appearance this season and scored seven tries during his Chiefs career. "When Wade got back from his shoulder injury, the most important thing for him was to play regular rugby," said director of rugby Pete Drewett. "We could not guarantee him that at Chiefs with the quality squad we have here, so we mutually agreed that Wade could look for other opportunities. "We wish him all the best in Italy and thank him for his contribution to the club during the last two years, not least his fly-half role in the trophy final last season."
