Cov win but Broadstreet bow out

Rugby

Coventry came from behind to seal a place in the fifth round of the EDF National Trophy but neighbours Broadstreet's cup run came to an end.

While Coventry won 26-16 at Rotherham, brave Broadstreet went out 18-17 at home to Bridgwater & Albion, beaten only by a penalty in the dying seconds.

Broadstreet led at the break with tries from Perry Pudge and Eddie Simkiss.

And, although Jordan Simpson added a third try, the visitors' kicking proved the difference.

Luke Cozens converted his own try for National League Three South Bridgwater to tie the scores at 12-12 just before the hour, to add to Louis Messer's early try.

Cozens then kicked a penalty to put the visitors ahead for the first time. And, although Simpson crossed five minutes later to put Broadstreet back in front, the home side infringed again with just three minutes left - and Cozens' boot proved crucial.

After twice beating higher league opposition, that brought Broadstreet's run to an end. But Coventry made it through to the last 16 after becoming one of the few sides to win this season at fellow National League One side Rotherham.

Cove trailed 6-5 at the break but second-half tries from Myles Dorrian and Donovan Sanders helped turn things round.

"There is a chance to go to Twickenham," Coventry's Head Coach Dave Addleton told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire. "And I would like a home draw."
