Shanahan expects Redruth reaction

James Shanahan has seen his Cambridge side slump in recent weeks

Cambridge player-coach James Shanahan believes his side can restart their National League 2 promotion push against Redruth on Saturday.

Cambridge travel to the league leaders having slipped to fourth in the table.

Cambridge have suffered three defeats in four games in recent weeks, leaving them 15 points off the pace.

Shanahan told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "If we can get that confidence back up, we'll be halfway through the season and ready to move up the league."

Redruth were deducted 10 points last season after refusing to complete a match at West's Renault Park after personal items were taken from the away dressing room during the first half.

Shanahan knows his side will have their work cut out if they are to take anything from their trip to Cornwall on Saturday.

"Even if they had lost every game, it's a challenge to go down to Cornwall and get a win," he said.

"There's a bit of history between Cambridge and Redruth following last season which was unfortunate."
